Scriptures of Thanksgiving – Day 27

Thankgsgiving Scripture Activity

Today is the day known as “Black Friday” here in the United States.  It is the day that officially kicks off the Christmas shopping season (or at least for many it does).  Today our family will be spending the day going through  our Christmas things and starting to put up our Christmas tree.  For our family’s Thanksgiving scripture activity, we are reading Psalm118:21-29 and copy verse 29.   Here is the graphic for it.

Psalm 118 29

Today I am thankful for my family.  I have a husband who has been a tremendous blessing to me.  He loves me unconditionally and shows it in everything he does and says.

So what are you thankful for today?

Thankgsgiving Scripture Activity

So today is the 23rd day of my Scriptures of Thanksgiving activity with my family.  Today we are reading 1 Thessalonians 3:9-10 and copying both verses.

Here is the Scripture graphic for today.

1 Thessalonians 3 9 10

We need to remember that we need to thank God for everything.  Even when things seem really bad, we need to remember that God can still make great things result. Right now our family is in limbo.  We know we are supposed to be moving after the first of the year to a “brand new to us” state, but right now we are waiting for the official notification.  So we wait.  But I know God has plans for us and those plans will not harm us, but bring good things to our family.  But being patient can be extremely difficult.

This is the week we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the United States and this year our family has a lot to be thankful for this year.  God has truly blessed our family – even though every situation may not have made it seem that way.

So what is going on with you today?  I would love to hear from you.

Scriptures of Thanksgiving – Days 16 & 17

Thankgsgiving Scripture Activity

So today is day 17 of our Scriptures of Thanksgiving family activity.  Now I have to be honest.  For the past three days, we have not done our activity as a family.  On Saturday, Dennis and I spent the entire day grocery shopping, window shopping and just enjoying time together.  I was very thankful for that opportunity.  Then on Sunday, we spent the day in the kitchen.  We made homemade Chicken soup and homemade White Bean Chicken Chili to put up for later meals.  Everyone in the family seems to enjoy being able to just go grab something to eat of the shelves, pantry or freezer.

Then yesterday, our oldest and our youngest along with myself had eye appointments in the afternoon, so the three of us went to work with Dennis.  I had the fun of having my eyes dilated because our family doctor wants to be sure there are no signs of retinal deterioration associated with my chronic high blood pressure.  I am very thankful to say, that my eyes were very healthy.  In the meantime, we are waiting on a call to tell us when I will be having my trans-esophageal echo-cardiogram done.  I need this procedure because of my chronic hypertension resulting in a thickening of my heart and a hole in between the top two chambers of my heart.  Of course we are also waiting for the doctor’s appointment next Wednesday to find out whether or not I need surgery.  Plus we are waiting to receive our actual orders to our next duty station.  We know where we are supposed to be going and when we are supposed to be reporting there, but still we wait on the actual paperwork telling us it is official.  S

The Scripture verses for yesterday was found in 2 Corinthians 4.  We read verses 13 – 18 and copied verse 15.

2 Corinthians 4 15

Then for today, we are reading 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 and copying verses 10 and 11.  Here is the graphic for it.

2 Corinthians 9 10 11

So what is going on in your world?  I would love to hear from you.

Scriptures of Thanksgiving – November 3, 2015

Thankgsgiving Scripture ActivitySo our family homeschools and we also love the Bible and getting into God’s World.  Several different places over the past few weeks, I have seen suggestions for doing month long activities around Thanksgiving.  So that is what our family has chosen to do.  Based on some suggestions I saw online and then using online tools and our concordance, we came up with a list of Scripture passages.  My husband and I managed to merge our ideas of what this should look like.

The first thing we did was get each person a special journal to write in each day.  The second thing we did was determine when we wanted to do the activity.  In our case, we have decided to do it right after dinner.

The next thing we had to decide was how much of each passage we wanted everyone to write.  I decided that quality was more important than quantity.  So we stuck with a goal of no more than three passages.  So each night we gather around the table with our notebooks, Bibles, and pens or pencils to dive into God’s Word.

We open with prayer.  Then I tell everyone what passage we are going to be copying.  The first two nights we read the Scripture passage, discussed the passage and then everyone writes the passage down in the journals.  We are devoting two pages side by side in the journal to each day.  On the one side is the verse.  On the second side, they write down anywhere from 2 to 5 things they are grateful for along with anything else they may want to include.  In my case, I tend to include cross-references.

This is what my  journal and sample of my Thanksgiving pages look like:
