Life and the Adventures It Brings

Philippians 4 13

So it has been a while since I posted.  Things got rather crazy around here when my Mac laptop decided to shut down and then refused to turn back on for me.  So I seriously thought I was going to have to take it to an authorized repair dealer again.  Then I went out of town for a week with my wonderful husband.  While I was gone, I left the laptop at home.  When I returned home, I decided to plug it in just to see what would happen and to my delight, it turned on.  I was thrilled.  Now we are getting into crunch time to prepare for our upcoming move to Texas.  I am looking forward to the adventures that await us there.

Hopefully, with my computer working again, I will be able to blog more about what is going on with our family.  We are cleaning, decluttering and working towards our final days here in this house.  I am really excited to see what the future brings.

While we were out of town, I had very few TV channels to choose from and no real way to play movies without my laptop.  So I dealt with what options were available to me.  This included the HGTV channel.  So one day when I turned the channel on, I was able to watch a show on Beach Front living on a budget – this included shows about a beach that is going to be thirty minutes or so from our new home, a beach in New Jersey (which was the state I was born in), a show about Topsail Island (less than thirty minutes from where my husband was born), plus a show about Myrtle Beach (which was one of our family’s favorite places to vacation when we lived in North Carolina).  So it was truly amazing to see all these places.

Almost immediately upon our arrival in Texas, we will be packing back up to head to the Great Homeschool Convention in Fort Worth.  I am looking forward to seeing what curriculum choices I can find for our family.

So what is going on in your world?  I would love to hear from you.

Well It is Real….We’re Moving to Texas

AdTo every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven_d a little bit of body text1

God’s Word tells us that to everything there is a time and a season.  Our season of being in Pennsylvania is almost over.  We are starting to face our “lasts” – such as the last time seeing certain people, the last time traveling certain roads, seeing the last snow fall, and the last time going certain places.  In some ways it is bittersweet.  No more chances to build snowman, have snowball fights or make snow angels.  At the same time, a whole new range of opportunities will be available to our family.

For the next couple of weeks, purging and getting rid of things is going to be our focus.  Preparing to move 7 people can be quite the adventure.  Plus, knowing we need almost two weeks of things with us for at least two different types of climates adds to the adventures.  Then on top of that, we need to determine what we absolutely need to have with us to survive the time we are in the hotel – including some of our cookware and such.

On top of that we will have the adventure of finding a home in Texas that our family will fit in.  I expect that to be quite an adventure.  Knowing we have about two months to accomplish everything is enough to send me into hibernation.  But I know the Lord will provide.

Philippians 4 13

In the coming weeks, I will be spending extra time in prayer and in God’s Word asking for the strength and grace needed to get our family through the trials that I am sure will happen during this move.  But I also know,

Psalm 37 4

In this case, the desire of my heart is to find a house quickly and easily.  Plus, I want the move to go smoothly – meaning the movers are efficient, the weather cooperates and the travel goes smoothly.  Once we get there, I desire to find the perfect church for our family and  friends for our children.

So for the next few weeks or so probably most of my posts will focus on the excitement and chaos of our upcoming move.  I will be documenting our purging, organization and planning involved in our moving process.

So what is going on where you are?  I would love to hear from you.  If I can pray for anything for you, let me know.

Plans Gone Awry

So have you ever made plans and known exactly what you want to happen- such as plans to sleep late, or get something specific done, or  go someplace?  Well, last night I made plans.  I wanted to sleep in and start the day off with God on my terms.  However, my plans did not come to fruition.  Instead, I awoke to my husband’s cell phone playing “Stars and Stripes Forever” loudly and much earlier than I ever wanted to wake up on a Saturday morning.

Of course, I thought about going back to sleep since it was not even 7 am yet.  But my plans once again failed – instead I wound up staying awake.  So I read my YouVersion Bible plans on my Ipad and then read my 3 devotional books.  It allowed me to spend some quiet time with God.  So even though my plans failed, I know God’s plans were perfect as always.

I need to spend some time planning this weekend for our menus for the next several weeks.  I have found the perfect tool to use for planning our menus and today I discovered another perfect use for it – my blog planner.  What tool is that?  The perfect tool is the new planner from  Ruth Soukup and  Living Well, Spending Less.  I plan on using my Corie Clark planner as my “take-everywhere” planner and love that it is set up as a daily planner.  But the Living Well, Spending Less planner just lends itself for being my blog planner and Menu planner.  There are columns for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the right-hand page,  along with 2 larger squares on the left-hand page that will be perfect for blog planning.

Here are some pictures of the planner.

First, here is the cover.  I added scrapbooking pages and embellishments to  it.

LWSL Front Cover

Then there are two pages for monthly goals that I believe would be perfect for identifying particular themes or blogging events for particular months.

Here is a sample of the weekly spreads.  The Left side is where I believe I will record blogging information including any pertinent information.  While I will use the right side to do my menu planning.  Since my husband and I  are following the 21-day Fix, I think this is going to be a perfect place to keep track of our meals as well.

I will be sharing more about this planner in a different post.

So what is going on in your world?  I would love to hear from you.  If there is anything you would like me to pray about for you, let me know.

Still Here Writing Away

So today is day 8 of the #Write365 project, and I am still writing.  This weekend I am enjoying some time with my husband – the love of my life even though he is attending a conference. Fortunately,  I was able to ride with him and get some time to spend on anything I want.  So a large part of my time is going to be spent writing.  I also want to spend time on planning my upcoming activities for my blogs.  I plan on working on my Bible Journaling.

I am being ambitious again and trying to participate in both the Documented Faith Project and the Documented Life project.  So this weekend is going to be a perfect time to work on catching up on these projects.  I decided to buy the binder kit for Documented Faith – and tonight I have been working on just the front cover.  So here is what I have done so far.  I still have some finishing touches and I still need to do the spine and the back.  Once those are finished, I will work on the dividers and the spreads for each month – as far as adding dates, days of the week and months to each page.

I also plan on catching up on my devotionals and my reading.  It sounds like a lot, but I am going to have a lot of free time.  When we arrived at the lodging we had reservations, I was shocked – and that is putting it mildly.  We had previously stayed at the lodging here and while the rooms were nice, the buildings were older.  Now there is a brand new building that is almost like a small town unto itself.  One day next week, I will probably post pictures.  In the meantime here are some pictures of our room.

I am a very blessed individual and I know it.  My husband loves and does everything he can to pamper me and let me know I am loved.  It is hard to believe that we started our journey to being a married couple 25 years ago.  He is the perfect soulmate for me and I love him with all my heart.  It is amazing that we get to mark the month of our first real “date” – although I can’t really call it a date – because my father and several thousand other people were present.  I am just so blessed to have him in my life.

So what is going on in your world?  I would love to hear from you.  If there is anything I can pray about for you, let me know.

Welcome 2016

So this post may be a little late, but welcome to 2016.  It is full of possibilities and opportunities.  For our family, it is a time to wait.  We are waiting for the official orders to come to move us to Texas.  This is day 6 of my #Write365 project and I have managed to write at least a little every day.

I am reminded of the words of Ecclesiastes 3:1

AdTo every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven_d a little bit of body text1

So I believe there is a purpose for everything that is going on with our family right now.  I know that God does not give us more than He knows we can handle – although sometimes I have to wonder.  I try to remember Jeremiah 29:11 –

Jeremiah 29_11 -For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

So I just need to focus on this verse and not let Satan steal my joy, my hope or my faith.  I need to lean on Jesus and let Him lead and guide my footsteps.  But sometimes that is hard to do, especially in times of great uncertainty.

This year I am participating in the Documented Faith and Documented Life projects, but I am getting off to a slow start with both.  I plan on catching up with them over the weekend.  I also am going to decide on a Scripture Writing plan for January and get started on it.  Plus, I plan on doing some reading this weekend.

So what is going on where you are?  I would love to hear from you.  I pray 2016 is off to a fantastic and blessed start.  If there is anything I can pray about for you, leave me a message.

2016 and My Words of the Year

Today is day 4 of the Writing Project.  Due to life, I only wrote on one of my other blogs – .  Today, my email has been filled with post after post after post about setting goals, words of the year, or resolutions.  I decided last year not to do resolutions particularly because I don’t seem to follow through on them very well.  Then last year (meaning 2014), I came across the idea of choosing a word for the year, so that is what I did.  My main word for the year was create.

This year I decided to continue the practice of choosing a word for the year.  I wound up with 3 main words plus one that came by circumstances.  I am not one to particularly play games or click on the various posts that come up involving answering a series of questions to find out who or waht your are.  However, in the last few weeks of 2015 one came across my screen about what word would describe 2016 for me.  I clicked on the post, answered the questions and waited for my results to come up on the screen.  When the result was displayed, I had to laugh.  I was told my word should be “Change” – and given that we are in the midst of receiving orders to move from Pennsylvania to Texas – I think change is inevitable.  So “change” is my word that came by circumstances.

My other words for the year are:  Write (since I am participating in #Write365 and am working through some books on writing), create – since I want to continue my artistic and writing plans from last year, and finally delight because I want to delight in each day and every circumstance I find myself facing – including a move cross-country that we don’t have definite facts about yet.

I have chosen two life verses for this year.  The verses are:

I feel both of these verses suit my life at this time.  I want to work on creating things to bring glory to God’s Kingdom.  I want to spend time doing Bible Journaling, Art Journaling and learning to draw.  I want to delight in the life God has given me.  I want to bring honor and glory to Him.  I want to delight in spending time with God in reading Scriptures, in prayer and writing.  I feel God is calling me to something, so it is just a matter of determining what that calling is.

I would love to hear from you.  What is going on in your life  Do you choose to make resolutions or do you choose a word or theme for your new year?

Day 2 of #Write365 – Resolutions

So today is the second day of the #Write365 project I am participating in this year.  Every day I going to write something.  There is no set amount of writing I need to do, I just need to write something.  As a new year begins, many people are making resolutions – such as to lose weight, exercise or other similar items.  But despite the best of intentions, as the year progresses, many will stop the pursuit of their resolutions.

So this year I am only making two resolutions – one is for this project and the second is to read through the Bible again in the year.  Several years ago, in our previous city, the pastor of our church always geared our church up for the new year by encouraging us to read through our Bible in the year with him.  He even provided brochures that provided a reading plan.  So for the past several years, I have been reading through my Bible in a year.  Some years I have used the 90-day plan, while other years, I took the entire year.

On of my favorite discoveries was the YouVersion app, which allows you to pick from a large variety of reading plans – including devotional plans, whole Bible plans, and partial Bible plans.  There are plans that can be completed in as little as 3 days right through plans that take an entire year.  So there is a large variety to choose from, ensuring everyone can find something for their tastes and needs.

I tend to select one devotional plan and one plan that takes me through the entire Bible.  This year I am using the following two plans:

“There’s Hope for Today” – a plan that utilizes short excerpts of Scripture along with commentary to help start the thinking process.

The “Discipleship Journal’s Book-at-a-Time” plan is the one I selected for reading through the Bible.

So far I am happy with both of the plans I selected.  In addition to these two resolutions, I have chosen a couple of words for this year and I will be sharing them in later posts.

Do you make resolutions and if so – what are they?  I would love to hear from you.

A New Year – 2016 – Full of Possibilities

So today is the beginning of a new year.  It is a blank notebook waiting to be written upon.  This year I am participating in the 365-day Writing Project.  I plan on spending time every day for the next year writing something.  For me, the important part is not how much I write, but that I write something every day.  I look forward to seeing where this journey takes me.

Today, our family opened gifts (circumstances made this the right option for this year) for Christmas.  Then the children went in the dining room where our daughter built her gift from Joseph.  The three boys played a game together.  Then we all watched the Lego movie together.

Now dishes need to be done.  So the children are working on that.  Dennis is getting ready to work on our Southern New Year’s Day feast including collards, black-eyed peas, cheesecake, pork with potatoes.

So while this is rather short for today, I want to get back to spending time with my family.
